#99 How religion controls and warp our perception of the Devil
In this episode, you will hear a relevant exploration of religion and the devil. Is there a connection and if so, what is it? Also, a question from Kim who asked If organised religion was created by the Devil.
I thought that was a fascinating topic to unpack, so let’s get into it.
Many religions have a strong hold on people in different ways and today we are focussing on fear of the Devil, Hell and the religious connection. There is no judgement of any specific religion in this episode: more so an overview of the concept of religion and how it affects people’s perception of the paranormal.
I have a client experience to highlight this. In episode 96 of this podcast, I spoke with Maree, a house clearing client and during her interview, she talked about the before and after aspects and improvement of having their home energetically cleansed. Religion preys on people’s vulnerabilities and Maree shared before the house clearing that she did have some reservations initially about paranormal entities being present in her home. They had occurrences going on that could not be explained rationally.
The fear of what she had drummed into her at church as a child deeply affected her adult perspective of the paranormal. Fire and brimstone talk from the pulpit gives the mass population a negative fearful impression of the lower realm. Maree found my candid explanation about why dark beings are here comforting and it helped alleviate her fears.
A friend shared with me once that she was so scared as a child of going to Hell, that she hardly slept. The generational religious beliefs her family followed traumatised her for all of her childhood and much of her early adult life thinking that if she were bad in the eyes of their religion and church she would be separated from her family in the afterlife and possibly burn in hell for all of eternity. Her fear of the Devil dissipated when she met me and we often talked about paranormal beings in our environment. I explain in a non-fear based way my long lived observations about these beings and why they are here…as you long term listeners will know.
Before we look at Kim’s question, back in episode 6, I was slapped in the face, not literally, but with religious prejudice being accused of bringing Satan, darkness and entities into a religious lady’s home when I visited one afternoon for an innocent catchup chat and a cuppa. The lady was deeply religious and that night, she messaged me accusing me of bringing entities into her home and worshipping the Devil through my house clearing work. She was so brainwashed by religion that she wouldn’t listen to any explanations about the negative energy in her home… which I felt was coming from her husband but shhh don’t tell her.
Now, let’s look at Kim’s question.
Is organised religion created by the Devil?
Well, I sat with this for a while and thought yes and no but in human form, not the horned devil, we all instantly think of. All the fire and brimstone talk from some religions does create mass fear, anxiety, paranoia and a plethora of other emotional vibrations that are a great energetic food source for lower vibrational entities. Religion uses the Devil and the thought of going to Hell for your bad deeds to control people but does it work?
My thoughts, being brought into a relaxed religious home and now I don’t adhere to any specific religious beliefs, more so a spiritual open outlook. I feel religion is used or misused by evil perpetrators, human perpetrators. Religion, priests, pastors and churches have not been created by the Devil but he does benefit from the corruption, ego, greed, well, the seven deadly sins and not just in Christian theology. Pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth are rife throughout society, and religion and the church are not immune. There are dozens of examples out there of all 7 sins being carried out through and with religion as the justifier to varying degrees. There have been a lot of instances where religion has been misused and misinterpreted over the centuries causing human suffering on many levels BUT that is the fault of people using religion as an excuse for their behaviours.
It is not all doom and gloom though, religion does create opportunities for people to connect, share their faith, grow spiritually, and provide care and support through charitable work. It is all about balance.
